Youth: Its in Edmonton
It continues in Edmonton, the youth rising in Edmonton with the first overall selection of Ryan Nugent Hopkins in the 2011 NHL draft, and I quite frankly am getting really excited. Hopefully, thisEdmontonteam will have a line up ofHall,JordanEberle, Magnus Paajarvi, and Ryan Nugent Hopkins as their young guns with guys like Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano mixed in with the leadership of Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horocoff. What to expect out of this core? It is wayyyyy to early to tell but from what I have seen Hopkinshas the ability to create plays as his 31 goals and 75 assists with the Red Deer Rebels showed last year in the WHL.
RNH will have to bulk up because being only 6’0 (I call shenanigans) and 164 pounds is clearly not the ideal weight for a guy trying to make the jump to the pros. Folks around the NHL are starting to take notice of the re birth of the Edmonton Oilers, and with other draft picks like feisty Travis Ewanyk and the son of Oilers legend Dillon Simpson in this year’s draft the last thing that this club wants is another 30th place finish and the youth with fight tooth and nail this season to prevent that from happening.
I’m just going to sit back, and take in rookie camp, training camp, the preseason and get ready for what will be another interesting regular season in the National Hockey League in Oil Country.
That’s all for now I’m Avry and I’m out!
